Mathematic Disagreement

September 16th, 2011

You’re now chatting with a random stranger. Say hi!

Question to discuss:
4 – 3 * 3 + 5 = ?

You: 0!

Stranger: 8

Stranger: ʘ___ ʘ

You: Wrong.

You: You have to do 3×3 first

You: so 4-9+5=0

Stranger: that…doesnt make sense

You: basic math!

You: order of operations!

Stranger: why do the 3*3 first

You: PEMDAS

Stranger: screw you…you use brackets to define order

You: Parenthesis, exponent, multiplication, division, add, subract

Stranger: 4-(3*3)+5

Stranger: that, would make sense

You: that’s the same as the above question

Stranger: nope

You: you don’t need the parenthesis

Stranger: you do
